Your coach is a distraction

Posted by Suman on Jan 24, 2021

That memorable day

you found the coach you finally connected with,

also disconnected you from your ultimate possibility.

Your coach may be your mentor/guide/savior.

But this same human is guarding the boundaries

within which your physical and mental training are confined.

"What boundaries?" you are probably thinking.

That internal question will trigger a thought chain.

The thought chain will become a defensive response on your part.

You will respond to these words by self-narrating from your memories -

"Huh. My coach is different. He does not control me. He has even allowed me to take over the programming of my training entirely. He is more of a friend".

The Truth is this, dear friend.

No matter how much freedom he has allowed you,

the boundaries are still there.

How do I know?

I can see it in your face when they

call all the lifters on the stage before a meet.

It is obvious in your "technique" when you are on the platform.

It is obvious in your post-lift celebrations.

And to your blatant lack of concern about this serious predicament,

let me also add this.

These boundaries will stick around until the very last

lift of your life.

Probably until you yourself become a coach

and continue this disease.

This is not just about you.

Look around you.

Is this not the reality of today?

Every one is on the same path.

They fall in love with a hobby/sport/craft.

They "date" it like they would date their fickle-minded partners.

And once they cannot reap any more pleasure,

they turn their hats the other way.

They don a whistle and become

"a coach".

For 99% of you and others like you, there is no hope.

I address the remaining 1% below.

Do you see it yet?

Do you see the downfall you are on for what it is?

Do you see the root of all your depression and pain?

Do you see the slippery slope you have ridden thus far?

If you do not see it today,

you never will.

But I will say this.

If by some magic, you do see,

If by some magic you are taken

to the other side of the shackles that you happily welcome today,

what will happen to you,

is beyond yours, mine,

and anyone's comprehension!

Naim?

Dimas?

Xiaojun?

These were just a glimpse.

The possibility I am hinting towards is

beyond any and all legends that have come to be.

No disrespect hides in my words for these individuals themselves.

Because they constantly remind the countless other "athletes" what

they are sacrificing by chasing Instagram points and

interviews with Weightlifting houses.

And yet these athletes continue to be unserious.

They continue to chase.

Okay, enough digression.

I will come straight to the point now.

You have heard of the word "evolution", correct?

Like all species, like all microbes and viruses, humans evolve too.

But very, very few realize that evolution.

"Why?" you ask?

Two reasons, I answer.

First, it is really destiny.

If all humans evolved to their ultimate selves,

the resultant utopia from the mass-evolution will

make evolution itself redundant.

Can you imagine what billions of evolved humans can create? what they can make happen?

One thing for sure will happen.

Society will not exist as it does today.

I will not need to remind people that...

"Umm, excuse me, you know are sitting on your Ultimate, right?"

Second, which is hinted at by the previous statement,

is that you are sitting on your evolved self.

Your childish games of program, training, sets, reps,

training, competition, winning, losing,

rest, recovery, nutrition, therapy, ... you name it,

are keeping you from the unstoppable force inside you.

No, you are not to be blamed.

And though your coach is the orchestrator of this madness,

even he is not to be blamed.

Like you, he is merely unevolved.

He himself is sitting on some innate talent.

Perhaps that of a writer or painter or dancer or joker.

So, I ask you this.

What are two unevolved human beings really doing collaborating?

Beyond their joys and sorrows and almost a deeply bonded

brotherhood, what shameful reality are they hiding?

The answer is obvious.

They are distracting each other from evolving.

Your coach is distracting you from being a legend.

You are your coach's escape from getting up

to something truly worthwhile in life.

Thank you.
